Salmon Injection

Salmon Injection

The "salmon injection" is a procedure in which PDRN (Polydeoxyribonucleotide)—a DNA fragment extracted and purified from salmonid fish—is injected directly into the skin. "Salmon injection" is not the official product name but a term derived from the source of the raw material.

It has been reported that PDRN, as it breaks down within the skin, activates the adenosine A2A receptor pathway, thereby regulating inflammatory responses and increasing signals involved in tissue regeneration and angiogenesis, which helps the damaged skin recover.1)

Rejuran’s PN also uses salmon-derived DNA, but it consists of DNA chains that are relatively longer than those in PDRN. While both ingredients play a role in skin regeneration, PNis geared toward improving overall skin condition—including fine lines, elasticity, and skin texture— whereas PDRNis focused more on the recovery of tissue damaged by inflammation or irritation.

About PDRN

Salmon Injections: How They're Made and How They Work

I've organized the information into three categories: the purification process, molecular size, and mechanism of action—
.

PDRN (Salmon DNA)
01

This is salmon-derived DNA purified to a high degree of purity.

PDRN is a component derived fromDNA extracted from the germ cells of salmonid fish, which is then fragmented and purified to a high degree of purity. During the manufacturing process, impurities such as proteins and peptides are removed or inactivated to reduce immunogenicity, resulting in high-purity DNA fragments suitable for use in human tissue.

* It has been reported that the similarity in DNA base sequences between humans and salmon is approximately 97 percent.

PDRN Molecular Weight
02

PDRN consists of small fragments of DNA.

Even among DNA components derived from the same source—such as salmon—physical properties vary depending on the length of the DNA strands and the formulation. PDRN generally consists of relatively small DNA fragments ranging from approximately 50 to 1,500 kDa and has lower viscoelasticity compared to high-molecular-weight PN formulations. Therefore, rather than remaining at the injection site like a gel for an extended period, it plays a greater role in breaking down within the tissue and transmitting regenerative signals. The degree of skin bulging immediately after the procedure is also relatively minimal, depending on the concentration and formulation of the product used.

* kDa (kilodalton): A unit used to express the mass of a molecule.

Adenosine A2A receptor
03

Reduces redness and promotes healing

PDRN is known to activate the adenosine A2A receptor pathway. When this pathway is activated, inflammatory signals are reduced, and regeneration-related signals—including VEGF—and angiogenesis are promoted, thereby shifting the microenvironment toward the recovery of damaged tissue. Due to these anti-inflammatory and tissue-regenerative effects, it is used to aid in the recovery of irritated and sensitized skin.

PDRN & PN

Salmon Injections vs. Rejuran: What's the Difference?

Both come from salmon, but the chain lengths are different.
When the lengths differ, their functions in the skin also differ.

Ingredients
Polydeoxyribonucleotide-
: Short DNA fragments derived from salmon
Polynucleotide
: longer DNA strands derived from the same source
Molecular weight
Approximately 50–1,500 kDa
Approximately 1,500 kDa or more
What the Skin Does
It activates the A2A receptor pathway to reduce inflammatory signals and promote tissue repair.
It locks in moisture in the dermis, creates a temporary supportive environment, and promotes tissue regeneration.
Immediately after injection
Due to its low viscoelasticity, the embossing is relatively less pronounced immediately after injection.
The injection site may become slightly swollen, but this usually subsides within 1–2 days.

* PDRN stands for Polydeoxyribonucleotide, and PN stands for Polynucleotide. Both ingredients are derived from salmon, but they differ in chain length.
* Classification based on molecular weight is a recently proposed standard, and there are differences depending on the product.
* Rather than one being better than the other, the choice depends on what your skin needs at the moment. In some cases, both are used together.

How It Works

How the Salmon Injection Works

1
Mechanism of Action: Step 1

The injected PDRN spreads into the dermis and binds to cell surface receptors at

Low-molecular-weight PDRN diffuses into the dermis, where it binds to the adenosine A2A receptors on fibroblasts and endothelial cells, triggering an initial signal.

2
Mechanism of Action, Step 2

Inflammatory signals decrease, and
recovery signals increase.

It has been reported that when A2A receptors are activated, the secretion of inflammatory cytokines decreases, while the production of growth factors—including VEGF—and microvascular formation increase, which in turn promotes collagen production by fibroblasts.

3
3-Step Mechanism of Action

Fragmented DNA returns to
cells as building blocks for repair

Breakdown products of nucleotides and nucleosides are recycled via the salvage pathway and used for DNA synthesis and the repair of damaged cells.

Treatment Areas

Treatment Sites for Salmon Injections

It is mainly used on areas that frequently become red or have rough texture.

Both cheeks 4 cc
Entire face (including the forehead) 6 cc

It can also be used on body scars and wounds.

Recommended For

We recommend this to people like this

For those whose red marks do not subside after they appear

For those who want to speed up their recovery after a skin treatment

For those who still have acne scars
and redness after their acne has cleared up

For those who want to experience the “
” effect of Skin Booster without any hassle

Not only the results, but also the difference in experience

The Episode Difference

Why It's Different

Every process has its own unique reason.

01

We recommend
only for procedures that are absolutely necessary.

Pre-Procedure Consultation

During the pre-treatment consultation, we assess whether your skin condition is suitable for the salmon injection, and proceed after determining the appropriate dosage and treatment areas.

NECESSITY

02

We've reduced the needle stimulation of the "
" using 34G ultra-fine needles.

34G Ultra-Fine Needle

The salmon injection is administered in small, closely spaced doses at the treatment site. Even minor irritation can become a burden when repeated, so we use 34G ultra-fine needles. This reduces the discomfort felt as the needle penetrates the skin and minimizes injection marks and bruising after the procedure.

COMFORT

03

The more treatment sessions you have, the more important it is to keep a record at
.

Online Treatment Report

Since the treatment is conducted over multiple sessions, we document the products used, their quantities, and changes in your skin in an online report after each session. The plan for the next session is also based on this record.

Notice

Please follow these guidelines after your procedure.

  • 1

Redness and swelling may appear at the injection site immediately after the procedure. These symptoms usually subside within 1–2 days, so please do not rub or press the area to try to make them go away.

  • 2

Please avoid wearing makeup on the day of your procedure. Wait at least 4 hours after the procedure before washing your face, and when you do, wash gently with lukewarm water.

  • 3

Please avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and saunas for 24 hours after the procedure. Doing so may cause swelling and bruising to worsen.

  • 4

Swelling usually subsides within 1–2 days, and bruising usually subsides within 1–2 weeks. Bruising around the eyes may last longer than in other areas.

  • 5

For one week after the procedure, please take special care to protect your skin from UV rays and keep it well-moisturized. It is best to avoid harsh exfoliation, peels, and steam treatments.

  • 6

This is not a one-time treatment. We recommend at least three sessions at two-week intervals, after which the interval will be adjusted based on your condition.

  • 7

The medication used for salmon injections is a prescription-only drug. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an autoimmune disease, or are taking anticoagulants, please be sure to inform your doctor during your appointment.

  • 8

If you experience severe pain, a burning sensation, or redness at the injection site that persists or worsens, please contact the hospital immediately.
